Help|Classes|Conjurer

Imp Familiar The conjurer possesses the ability to bring forth beings from other dimensions and bind them to serve him. Known for their scrying ability as well as the powerful minions they loosely control, this wizard is capable both in utilitarian and military concerns. Alignment plays a strong role in the sorts of beings a conjurer will be able to best utilize.

Strengths of the conjurer include:

  • A conjurer may conjure and bind a wide variety of minions from the outer planes, and what they may best accomplish at any moment varies accordingly. While benevolent servitors such as the darkness-battling angels and healing archons best serve those who are inherently good and malevolent servitors such as the fierce magic-wielding demons and maledicting devils tend to get along better with those whose morality is close aligned with their devious natures, any conjurer may summon and bind any of these creatures. A conjurer who has the protective powers of a radiant archon at the ready is prepared for very different situations than a conjurer who has bound a ferocious harmentia demon. Where other classes are fairly static in their abilities, a conjurer can change significantly simply by binding different servitors.
  • Similarly, a conjurer may call upon the services of creatures from the elemental planes of fire, air, earth, and water, each with varying strengths. Where a fire elemental may be set to such tasks as providing heat for the conjurer in arctic environments or incinerating buildings, a water elemental may instead be commanded to ferry the conjurer across an ocean or capsize boats. A variety of abilities are at the conjurer's disposal depending on which of these creatures he has bound.
  • Conjurers possess the ability to call upon their familiars, which are creatures closely attuned to the conjurer. The conjurer can utilize a familiar's abilities to perform a variety of tasks depending on the nature of the familiar. They also can send their familiars to scout for them, including into many dangerous places unsafe for the conjurer themselves to enter. A conjurer can see through the familiar's eyes and each familiar has a different subset of abilities, such as the ability to scout Thera from the skies or ability to see thieves and assassins skulking in the shadows.
  • A conjurer's ability to gather information and spy upon others is unmatched. He possesses many useful abilities of this kind beyond even the powerful familiar, including the ability to view those he chooses from afar, the ability to eavesdrop on the conversations of people half a world away, the ability to discover the properties of unusual items beyond those any other character can discover, and even astral projection.
  • Servitors are more intelligent and independent than many other servants in the world of Thera. It is not unusual for angels and demons to re-engage enemies even after they’ve fled, making it difficult for an enemy to fight the conjurer directly. Similarly, depriving the conjurer of their ability to cast spells via a variety of attacks is often of little help in battling a conjurer, as their archons or devils will continue to cast their own powerful spells.
  • The dimensional abilities of a conjurer grant them powerful advantages in the field of transportation as well. Only the conjurer can ward their allies from summoning, teleport in a controlled manner through a phase door, or transport their whole party vast distances.
  • Conjurers are trained in all of the device magic skills, such as scrolls, staves, and wands. These magical devices augment their already considerable magical arsenals.
  • The conjurer's feared ability to bind a nightgaunt to brutalize and kidnap their enemies is unparalleled in any other class's skillset.

Of course, those whom bargain with beings of immense power should be prepared to face the consequences :

  • The greater intelligence and will of the conjurer's servitors can also work against the conjurer. These powerful, alien beings are not always enthused with the process of being forced to come to Thera and forced to serve. If improper steps are taken or they become immensely displeased, they may break their bindings and assault the conjurer, possibly killing him. Demons especially demand sacrifices for their service and will assault the conjurer if they are not paid their ransom.
  • The process of conjuring is potentially time-consuming and conjurers will regularly spend some time in the process of gathering their servitors. When a conjurer is without her servitors, she can be very weak in battle. Servitors comprise a large portion of the class's power which leads to dependence upon them.
  • Conjurers without the healing support of archons can be fragile in melee combat. They do not inherently possess protection from bashing, tripping, and other command denial attacks and are not apt at dodging or parrying. This can lead to nasty bouts with some of the more melee-oriented professions if the conjurer is not careful.
  • Conjurers will find themselves hunted by those associated with the Battlerager and Outlander cabals. Even the most inoffensive conjurer will find he has at least these two groups of enemies seeking his blood.
